United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics


The United States of America (USA), represented by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), is scheduled to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. U.S. athletes have appeared in every Summer Olympic Games of the modern era, except for the 1980 edition in Moscow, when America led a sixty-six-nation boycott in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. As Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Summer Olympics, the United States will march penultimately before the homebound French team enters Place du Trocadéro during the parade of nations segment of the opening ceremony. Additionally, an American segment will be performed during the closing ceremony.

The United States will be looking to extend its winning streak both in the gold medal count and overall medal count to the fourth and eight consecutive Olympic Games, respectively.

Four American archers have qualified for the men's individual and women's recurve by virtue of their respective result at the 2023 World Championships in Berlin, Germany; 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile; and 2024 Pan American Championships in Medellín, Colombia, include multi-Olympic medalist Brady Ellison and women’s world number one Casey Kaufhold.

Artistic swimming

The United States fielded a full-squad of eight artistic swimmers to compete in the open team and women's duet events by topping the list of five highest-ranked nations at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Athletics (track and field)

U.S. track and field athletes have achieved the entry standards for Paris 2024 either by passing the direct qualifying mark (or time for track and road races) or by virtue of their world ranking in the events listed in the table (a maximum of 3 athletes each).USATF kicked off their qualification period with the 2024 U.S Olympic Team Trials – Marathon in Orlando, Florida in February. Three women and two men punched their tickets to Paris with the third men's spot still up for grabs.

To assure their selection to the team, athletes will compete in the 2024 U.S. Olympic trials on June 21-30, 2024, in Eugene, Oregon. On February 21, 2024, USA Track & Field announces staff rosters in Olympic Games Paris 2024, included Stanley Redwine will be Men's Head Coach and LaTanya Sheffield will be Women's Head Coach in Track & Field.

Men's tournament

The U.S. men's basketball team qualified for the Olympics by virtue of being one of the two highest-ranked teams from the Americas, securing its berth at the 2023 FIBA World Cup in Palestine-Japan-Philippines.

On January 24, 2024, USA Basketball announced a 41-athlete player pool for the 2024 Olympic team. The team will be led by head coach Steve Kerr and assisted by Mark Few, Tyronn Lue, and Erik Spoelstra. The final roster was named on 17 April 2024, including three-time Olympic champion Kevin Durant, NBA’s all-time scoring leader LeBron James and the Olympic Games will be a first for Stephen Curry.

The U.S. women's basketball team qualified for the Olympics by winning the gold medal and securing an outright berth at the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

The U.S. men's 3x3 team qualified for the Olympics as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the world. On February 8, 2024, USA Basketball announced that Joe Lewandowski will coach the 2024 team in Paris. Additionally, James Fraschilla will serve as assistant coach for the men's squad.

The U.S. women's 3x3 team qualified for the Olympics as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the world. On February 8, 2024, USA Basketball announced that Jennifer Rizzotti, president of the Connecticut Sun, will coach the 2024 team in Paris. Tammi Reiss was named assistant coach.

Boxing

The U.S. has so far qualified six boxers into the Olympic tournament. The first qualifying event was the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, with American boxers earning their Olympic quotas there. Later on, one American boxer qualified via the 2024 World Olympic Qualification Tournament 1 in Busto Arsizio, Italy.

The United States have so far qualified two breakdancers at the Olympics. Victor Montalvo (Victor) qualified for the Games in the B-Boy dual category following his gold-medal victory at the 2023 World Championships in Leuven, Belgium. Sunny Choi (Sunny) qualified following her gold-medal victory at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

The United States have qualified two boats into the slalom competition via the 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in London, Great Britain. and one boat gets reallocated to the best next NOC in the World Rankings. Evy Leibfarth became the first American woman to qualify for three paddling events in the Olympics after earning her spot in both kayak slalom and kayak cross. Casey Eichfeld earns Paris spot after winning the men’s slalom at the Olympic Trials.

Sprint

U.S. canoeists qualified one boat in each of the following distances via the 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg, Germany; and through the 2024 Pan American Canoe Sprint Olympic Qualifiers in Sarasota. On March 22, 2024, 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Nevin Harrison became the first American to qualify for the Paris Games in any canoe or kayak event.

U.S. mountain bikers secured both men and women's two quota places in the Olympic cross-country race by topping the field of nations vying for qualification at the 2023 Pan American Championships in Congonhas, Brazil and based on the points acquired throughout the biennial UCI Mountain Bike Olympic Qualification Ranking.

BMX

U.S. riders received a single quota place in the men's and women's BMX race for Paris 2024 by topping the field of nations vying for qualification at the 2023 Pan American Championships in Riobamba, Ecuador and 2024 UCI BMX World Championships.

U.S. riders received a single quota spot each in the men's and women's BMX freestyle for Paris 2024, finishing among the top two at the 2022 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

U.S. divers have secured two quota places each in the men's synchronized springboard and women's synchronized platform for Paris 2024 by attaining a top-three finish from the list of nations eligible for qualification at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. Team USA also secured two quota places via the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

U.S. equestrians entered a full squad each in their respective disciplines through a top-six finish in the team dressage at the 2022 World Championships in Herning, Denmark, a top-seven finish at the Eventing Worlds of the same year in Pratoni del Vivaro, Italy, and a top-three finish at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

U.S. fencers have qualified a full squad each in the men's and women's team foil and women's team épée for the Games at the World Cup. On February 29, 2024, 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Lee Kiefer, three-time medalist Alexander Massialas and 2020 Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Nick Itkin became the first fencers to qualify for the Paris Olympics. On March 4, 2024, the women's saber and men's saber squads qualified for the Olympics via the World Cup, Zonal Championships and World Championships. On March 5, 2024, a 18-year-old fencer Colin Heathcock won the gold medal at the Tunis Grand Prix and Padua World Cup, punching his ticket to his first Olympic Games. Eli Dershwitz also qualified in both the individual and team events for the men's saber. On March 20, 2024, Gerek Meinhardt clinched his spot in both the individual and team events for the men's foil, being headed to his fifth Games. Elizabeth Tartakovsky, Tatiana Nazlymov, Magda Skarbonkiewicz, Lauren Scruggs, and Jackie Dubrovich also qualified in both the individual and team events for the women's saber and foil. On March 28, 2024, Anne Cebula, Hadley Husisian, and Margherita Guzzi Vincenti qualified in the women's épée and Mitchell Saron in the men's saber for both the individual and team events.

The United States has entered a full squad in artistic gymnastics. Five female gymnasts qualified for Paris after achieving a gold-medal victory in the team all-around at the 2022 World Championships in Liverpool, England. Meanwhile, five male gymnasts qualified for Paris by virtue of a top-nine finish in the team all-around at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. To assure their selection to the team, gymnasts will compete in the 2024 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships on May 30–June 2, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas, to determine the lineups in 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials on June 27–30, 2024, in Minneapolis, MN.

The U.S. has secured the quota in the individual event by virtue of the nation's results at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

Trampoline

The United States has qualified two gymnasts. One female athletes qualified for the women's trampoline competition by finishing in the top eight at the 2023 World Championships in Birmingham, England; and one male athletes qualified for the men's trampoline through the final ranking of 2023–2024 World Cup series.

Modern pentathlon

America modern pentathletes have qualified a single quota place for Paris 2024. Jessica Davis secured one of two available spots for North, Central and Caribbean Americas in the women's event at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

Rowing

U.S. rowers have qualified boats in each of the following classes through the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia and 2024 Final Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland. Five rowers earned their spots at 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials on April 4-7, 2024, in Sarasota, Florida. Four U.S. boats earned their spots in the 2024 World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland. In total, the U.S. have 12 boats racing in the Olympic Games.

Shooting

U.S. shooters have achieved quota places for the following events based on their results at the 2022 and 2023 ISSF World Championships, 2022 and 2024 Championships of the Americas, 2023 Pan American Games, and 2024 ISSF World Olympic Qualification Tournament. The first five athletes were named in January 2024. The U.S. shooting squad will be named based on the aggregate scores obtained by the shooters at two stages of the 2023–24 Olympic Trials (fall and spring).

On March 18, 2024, three-time Olympic gold medalist Vincent Hancock won the U.S. Olympic Trials in skeet and will lead the eight-person team in shotgun events at the Paris Games. Ivan Roe, Keith Sanderson, Sagen Maddalena, Mary Tucker, and Katelyn Abeln also qualified for the Olympics at the 2024 Team Trials. Five shooters qualified in smallbore events for Paris after the conclusion of the U.S. Olympic Trials. Ada Korkhin and Henry Leverett were named in May 2024.

Sport climbing

The U.S. has qualified five climbers for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Colin Duffy and Emma Hunt secured their spots in the men's combined and women's speed after winning silver medals at the 2023 World Championships in Bern, Switzerland. Meanwhile, Piper Kelly, Samuel Watson, and Jesse Grupper qualified for Paris in the women's speed, men's speed, and men's combined after winning gold medals at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

The U.S. has qualified five surfers (three female and two male) to the Olympic sailing competition in Tahiti. The first quota was awarded for the victory in the women's team event at the 2022 ISA World Surfing Games in Huntington Beach, California, and the other three quotas were awarded after finishing among the top eight (women) and top ten (men) of those eligible for qualification in the 2023 World Surf League rankings.

Swimming

Katie Grimes became the first U.S. athlete to qualify by name for the Games after placing third at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships. To assure their selection to the U.S. team, swimmers must finish in the top two of each individual pool event under the Olympic qualifying cut at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials held on June 15–23, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Table tennis

The United States has entered a full women's squad and player into the table tennis competition at the Games by virtue of the top two results in the women's team competition at the 2023 Pan American Table Tennis Championship in Havana, Cuba. On March 1, 2024, Lily Zhang qualified for the Paris Olympics, becoming the first American player to claim their spot by name. The remaining two team members were determined through the U.S. Olympic Trials held on March 21-24, 2024, in West Monroe, Louisiana, with Amy Wang and Rachel Sung earning their spots to compete in Paris. Later on, Kanak Jha joining U.S. squad by virtue of securing one of four spots available for men's singles competition, through the 2024 Pan American Qualification Tournament in Lima, Peru.

Taekwondo

The United States qualified four taekwondo athletes to compete at the Games. Carl Nickolas secured his spot by virtue of finishing within the top five in his respective division of the Olympic rankings. Later on, Kristina Teachout, Faith Dillon and Jonathan Healy secured their spots, each in their respective weight class, by winning the semifinal match, through the 2024 Pan American Qualification Tournament in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Tennis

The main qualifying criterion will be the players' positions on the ATP and WTA ranking lists published on June 10, 2024. Coco Gauff became the first U.S. tennis player to mathematically clinch a spot in the Olympic field, setting up her Olympic debut in Paris. She has accumulated enough points and guaranteed to be among the top four U.S. women's singles players at the end of the 12-month Olympic qualifying window.

Triathlon

The United States has confirmed five quota places (two men's and three women's) in the triathlon events for Paris after the six highest-ranked NOCs will be allocated the same number of places based on the World Triathlon mixed relay rankings of 25 March 2024. Triathlete Morgan Pearson and Taylor Knibb qualified for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team at the 2023 World Triathlon Olympic Games Test Event Paris.

Weightlifting

The United States qualified five weightlifters into the Olympic competition. Hampton Morris (men's 61 kg), Wesley Kitts (men's 102 kg), Jourdan Delacruz (women's 49 kg), Olivia Reeves (women's 71 kg) and Mary Theisen-Lappen (women's +81 kg), secured one of the top ten slots, each in their respective weight division based on the IWF Olympic Qualification Rankings.

Wrestling

The United States has so far qualified fifteen wrestlers for each of the following classes into the Olympic competition. Seven wrestlers qualified for the Games by virtue of top five results in their respective division via the 2023 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.; six wrestlers qualified by advancing to the final round at the 2024 Pan American Olympic Qualification Tournament in Acapulco, Mexico; and two wrestlers qualified through the 2024 World Qualification Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey.

The schedule for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Wrestling, which will be held at the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania on April 19-20, 2024. The final roster was named on 20 April 2024, included Olympic champion Kyle Snyder and World Championships title Amit Elor.
