  <br/><div  ><p><b>Beastie Boys Square</b> is the name given to the intersection of Ludlow and Rivington streets on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City. The intersection was immortalized when it appeared on the Beastie Boys' 1989 album Paul's Boutique. 
</p><p>After a decade of petitioning the community board the vote was approved in July 2022 and, on September 8, 2023 the intersection was officially renamed with an event at which both Mike D and Ad-Rock spoke at.
</p>



<h2><span id="History">History</span></h2>
<p>The corner was featured on the Beastie Boy's second album Paul's Boutique (1989). The photograph was shot by Jeremy Shatan but the album cover credited Nathaniel Hornblower, an alias used by Adam MCA Yauch. 
</p><p>The photo on the cover is of Lee's Sportswear store at 99 Rivington St. but when the album is unfolded, it reveals a complete panorama of the intersection. A fictional sign was places at 99 Rivington titling the store Paul's Boutique.
</p><p>LeRoy McCarthy, a former music industry rep, began to advocate for the intersection of Ludlow and Rivington to be renamed after Adam Yauch's death in 2012.  He started the petition with a facebook page and a Change.org petition. The original petition by McCarthy is quoted from  NYC.gov as:
</p><p>In 2014, Community Board 3 voted 24-1 against the renaming citing city policy that community involvement with the location needed to be ongoing for at least ten years previous to the application for renaming. Final approval for the renaming ended up requiring several votes from the transportation board, the community board and the city council.
</p><p>In July 2022, the city council approved the renaming of the intersection to Beastie Boys Square. The dedication happened on September 8th, 2023 about a month after Hip Hop celebrated its 50th anniversary.
</p><p>Beastie Boys Square is the second location in NYC memorializing the Beastie Boyz; a park in Brooklyn has been renamed Adam Yauch Park.
</p><p>The corner location is now home to a Wolfnights Gourmet Wrap restaurant while the other corners of the intersection are occupied by restaurants Pretty Ricky's and Noodle House.
</p>

        <h2><span id="25th_anniversary_mural">25th anniversary mural</span></h2>
<p>In 2014, artist Danielle Mastrion painted a mural of the Beastie Boys at the location where the album cover was shot. The mural is on the side of the Wolfnights restaurant and was painted in dedication for the 25th anniversary of the Paul's Boutique LP release.
</p><p>The mural's advocation was also spearheaded by LeRoy McCarthy.
