Kim Seul-gi

Kim Seul-gi (born October 10, 1991) is a South Korean actress. She is known for starring in the television series Oh My Ghost (2015) and Splash Love (2015), as well as the film Ode to My Father (2014). She is also a former cast member of tvN's entertainment show SNL Korea.

Early life and education

Kim Seul-gi was born on October 10, 1991 in Busan. Kim grew up in Busan and loved making people laugh from a young age. She had a dream of becoming a musical actor while she was in school. In her third year of high school, she started getting ready for a career in acting to help heal a broken heart. She began her acting journey when she joined an acting academy during her third year of high school. However, things didn't go smoothly at first because her family didn't have much money, so she couldn't afford to attend acting school from the beginning. But she took a chance and went to the academy, confidently asking them to support her. Luckily, the academy recognized her passion and gave her the opportunity to study acting.

She majored in musicals at the Department of Acting of Seoul Institute of the Arts.

Career

Kim completed her studies in 2010. The following year, she joined the cast of "Romeo Landing on Earth," a play written and directed by Jang Jin, a renowned film director. This play was specifically staged to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Seoul Institute of the Arts. Kim's participation in the production was as a member of the college theater society known as "Venture to Meet" (만남의 시도). Her exceptional performance in the play impressed Jang Jin, the director.

Months later in mid-2011, when Jang Jin was looking for cast members for the live comic variety show called SNL Korea, he recruited Kim as a cast member. While gaining support on this experimental live programme consistently, her popularity significantly increased, especially in the latter half of 2012. At the time, Kim became a hot topic in the program for her sonorous voice, excellent acting ability to play a variety of roles, and sly spewing out foul language, earning her the nickname 'the nation's younger sister.' Accordingly, she became mainstream model in 2013, serving as a model for numerous advertisements ranging from dairy products to insurance and telecommunication companies.

She is a member of both as so-called "Jang Jin's Division" (장진사단), a group of entertainers who have been influenced by Jang Jin, and part of his entertainment company called Film-it-suda (필름있수다).

In 2014, Kim Seul-gi expanded her position by appearing in the movie 'Miss Granny' and the KBS2 drama special 'I'm Dying Soon'. And he left a strong impression on the public once again when he was cast in KBS2's Monday-Tuesday drama 'Discovery of Love', which first aired in August.
