"In the Still of the Night" is a popular song written by Cole Porter for the MGM film Rosalie sung by Nelson Eddy and published in 1937.

Two popular early recordings were by Tommy Dorsey (vocal by Jack Leonard) and by Leo Reisman (vocal by Lee Sullivan). Dorsey's charted on October 16, 1937 and peaked at No. 3. Reisman's charted on December 25, 1937 and peaked at No. 9.

Other notable recordings

The song has since become a standard and has been recorded by many artists. Among them:

  • Perry Como on his 1955 album, So Smooth.
  • Ella Fitzgerald recorded this in 1956 for her Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Songbook". On Verve Records, produced by Norman Granz.
  • Doris Day - Hooray for Hollywood (1958)
  • Oscar Peterson - Oscar Peterson Plays the Cole Porter Songbook (1959)
  • Dion and the Belmonts - Wish Upon a Star (1960). This was the last record for Laurie Records covered it in a more modern style.
  • Billy Eckstine, along with Bobby Tucker's Orchestra on No Cover, No Minimum (1960)
  • Frank Sinatra – Ring-a-Ding-Ding! (1961)
  • Julie London - All Through the Night: Julie London Sings the Choicest of Cole Porter (1965)
  • Rosemary Clooney - Rosemary Clooney Sings the Music of Cole Porter (1982)
  • Mel Tormé - Velvet & Brass (1995).
  • Chanticleer - Lost in the Stars (1996)
